Letter to your MP regarding surgery opening hours

The government is threatening to force doctors surgeries across the country to stay open later in the evening and also at weekends. They have not spoken to doctors before making this policy and do not seem to realise that it will mean your GP will be available to work fewer hours during the ordinary working day. We have drafted a letter which can be sent to your local GP voicing your concerns at this change which can be downloaded, updated with your name, address, date and the name of your MP. Please return the letter to our reception from where we will forward it on for you. |

BMA Letter to Patients

You may have read reports that GPs have refused to extend their opening hours for patients. In fact, the BMA, the doctors’ trade union, has offered for GPs to work longer hours. However, we would not want patient care to suffer as a result of any changes. The Government is not offering any extra money for surgeries to open longer and we want to ensure that longer opening hours are properly funded.
For this reason we currently remain opposed to the proposed changes. we want to ensure that longer opening hours are properly funded. For this reason we currently remain opposed to the proposed changes.
